Crooked River Ranch: 12 miles northwest of Redmond, off U.S. Highway 97. The majority of the ranch is located in south Jefferson County and extends into the northern portion of Deschutes County. Portland is 143 miles northwest via Mt. Hood Highway 26. Eugene and Salem are 135 miles west over the Cascade Range.

Crooked River Ranch covers approximately 12,000 acres. The ranch is a planned unit development, with nearly 11,000 acres in residential sites, ranging in size from one acre to more than five acres. There are over 1,000 acres owned by the Ranch Association, with amenities including an 18 hole golf course, 102 site RV Park, tennis courts, swimming pool, ball field, pavilion, park and several tracts of open space for future recreations uses. The community supports many small businesses in addition to a post office, several restaurants, churches and other tourist facilities.

Canyon walls, deep gorges and the clear rippling waters of the Deschutes and Crooked Rivers form the east and west boundaries. Additionally, there are several large tracts of public land adjoining the ranch, which are administered by the Bureau of Land Management.

CRR History: The ranch was originally a large cattle ranch owned by William Gates. The original ranch house was built in 1916 and is still in use today, now housing the Crooked River Ranch Seniors. In 1961, the Thomas Bell family purchased the ranch. It was operated as the Z-Z Cattle Company in ranching for ten years. In late 1971, Bill MacPherson purchased Crooked River Ranch for development as a recreational site. More and more recreational purchasers moved to the ranch and in the early 1980's it was rezoned to rural residential.
